‘HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT’: Chorleywood signal box project comes to an end after ‘withdrawal of support’

The Friends of Chorleywood Signal Box (FOCSB) held their final meeting in March and declared the end of their project.

On Wednesday, March 26, Chorleywood Residents’ Association (CRA) announced the heartbreaking news that FOCSB would no longer be working on their project to turn the unused signal box at Chorleywood Station into a heritage museum.

FOCSB was formed by the late councillor Martin Trevett and CRA chair Owen Edis. One of their projects included the production of a book written by Hugh Howes and the group to give an insight into the Metropolitan railway line. All the money raised would go to the museum project.

In the final FOCSB meeting on Tuesday, March 11, the committee meeting minutes stated: “It was a huge disappointment that due to the withdrawal of the necessary support from Transport for London, the project had to be wound up in the end. The one success was the superb writing and editorial efforts of Hugh Howes that gave us something from the work of the last few years.

“Recognition was given to our chairman Martin Trevett, who recently passed away, for his vision coupled with CRA for creating an educational facility from Chorleywood’s disused signal box.

“Regrettably, the project is finally closed, with thanks to all who participated in what started enthusiastically as a highly commendable project supported by local council authorities.”

The group no longer exists, and the money raised will now be donated to CRA.
