Health Secretary Matt Hancock MP has confirmed that £400million will be granted to build new emergency and specialist care facilities at Watford General Hospital over the next five years.
The plans include a new A&E, a new interventional radiology suite, women and children’s services and obstetric theatres.
The news was announced by Richard Harrington MP for Watford, who has been lobbying the Government for funds to redevelop the hospital since he became MP for the town in 2010.
Mr Harrington MP said: “I’m delighted that the staff at Watford General will now have the full financial support and resources that they need to deliver world-class specialist care to people in our community.
“It’s been nine years in the making, and I’m incredibly pleased that a new hospital will be underway for the people in our community before I stand down as Watford’s MP at the next election as I’ve always pledged.”
