Giuseppe Sannino has been confirmed as Watford FC’s new head coach. The 56-year-old Italian coach takes the reins at Vicarage Road after the departure of Gianfranco Zola, who resigned from the club on Monday. Sannino was last night pictured with owner Gino Pozzo and technical director Gianluca Nani at dinner and his widely tipped move has now been confirmed. Sannino takes up his post immediately and will be joined at the club by assistant coaches Francesco Troise, Giovanni Cusatis and Paolo De Toffol. The 56-year-old has been in management for 17 years, first taking charge of amateur club Oltrepo before moving up to Serie C2 side Biellese. In the last three years Sannino has managed Serie B sides Varese, Siena and Palermo. His last post was with Serie A side Chievo, who sacked the manager last month. Prior to Sannino’s appointment the Italian told press that he was in talks with Watford FC. Yesterday he said: “Me to Watford? I don’t want to say too much, but there has been some contact and soon I will fly to England to analyse things and to understand if something can be born. I always want to be working in the field and I always want new challenges.”
