HISTORIC: St Albans City FC announce first-ever official women’s team

St Albans City FC has announced that Colney Heath Ladies will be competing as their St Albans City Women as of next season, with signings of local stars already underway.

The current side will leave the Recreation Ground for Clarence Park and will compete in the Eastern Region Women’s Premier Division for the 2023/24 season.

The team will be the first official women’s team in the club’s 115-year history, with St Albans City FC hopeful that it will lead to the development of a pathway mirroring the existing men’s side in the club’s academy, which also sees its first female U14’s side debuting next season.

Already, players have been announced, with many coming from the previous Colney Heath incarnation.

Centre-back and part-time goalie Lucy Hancock, defender Kelly Hancock and attacking midfielder Terri Harvey have already been signed, having come from London Colney.

Also joining them is centre-back Annie Hickey and defender Eustacia Randles.

Speaking in an interview with the club, Lucy said: “Myself, I first played football for St Albans City Youth, so to come back here now and be part of their first-ever women’s football team is pretty amazing to be honest.”
