HIGH NOTES: Watford’s oldest musical society launches new small choir

Published on: 10th June 2024   |   By: Panayiota Demosthenous   |   Category: Uncategorized

Watford’s oldest musical society is embarking on an exciting venture, with the launch of its new small choir.

Watford Philharmonic Society (WPS) has been performing concerts in Watford since 1935 and organises four concerts a year focusing on large-scale classical choral works.

Now, WPS has added Watford Phil Voices, a small group of around 16 members who will perform at some WPC concerts and community events.

Their first outing was at the Bushey Performing Arts Festival on June 9, with their second performance taking place at the Langley Way Choir Summer Concert on June 29.

Speaking to WATFORDnews, musical director Michael Cayton said: “WPS has many excellent singers and this year we have drawn together a smaller ensemble to enable us to reach out into the community and perform at local events.”

Pam Allanson, chair of WPS, said: “As we’re always happy to welcome new members to our society, we hope this new venture will encourage confident musicians in the area to join us.”
