Stanmore residents are invited to have their say on Harrow Council’s new Draft Local Plan, which sets out a vision for the future of the borough.
Since Harrow’s last Local Plan was adopted in 2012, explains Deputy Leader councillor Marilyn Ashton, national and regional planning policy has changed considerably.
Additionally, says cllr Ashton, the current Local Plan insufficiently protects Harrow from proposals which are unsuitable for the borough. The new plan suggests that development proposals should be subjected to the same planning policy tests that apply to the green belt.
The new plan also details redevelopment opportunities at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, where many of the buildings and facilities are out of date.
After the consultation ends, the Draft Local Plan will be modified to take into account residents’ feedback. It will then be examined by inspectors during spring 2025 and hopefully will be implemented by the end of next year.
