A Watford choir is celebrating its hugely successful charity concert ahead of the start of a new term.

In June, in an event the audience described as its “best ever”, Watford Phoenix Choir performed a variety of songs to a packed-out St Mary’s Church. The second half of the concert was devoted to a celebration of ABBA’s 50th anniversary, featuring several specially written arrangements by musical director David Halstead and accompanist and singer Elizabeth Howard.

Also performing was the Watford Junior Phoenix Choir from Central Primary School, who performed a selection of songs led by Pat Baxter.

The concert raised £500 for the West Herts Hospitals Charity and for the new Wellbeing Garden which is being built at Watford General Hospital.

Emily Theobald, from the West Herts Hospitals Charity, said: “I’m very grateful to have been part of it, thank you very, very much. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I couldn’t believe the amount of people that were singing; the church was full. A fantastic atmosphere.”

The choir would now like to welcome additional members for the autumn term. It is very friendly and open to all abilities with no auditions. The term starts at St Mary’s Church at 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 25.
