Wealdstone FC continue to impress and are now five points clear at the top of the National League South today (August 31) thanks to a 2-1 victory over Maidstone.
The Stones took the lead in the 23rd minute thanks to a superb goal by Billy Clifford who scored from a corner. He netted his third of the season.
After the Restart The Stones got another chance but the keeper was able to stop Efete’s header towards goal. It wasn’t until the final minutes of the first half that Jacob Mendy was able to put the game to rest.
His left-footed strike from the edge of the box was able to reach the bottom corner, putting The Saints 2-0 up.
Maidstone didn’t get much of a look in until the final five minutes when Daniel Wishart smashes his second attempt on goal into the roof of the net.
The away side then had the perfect opportunity to make the scoreline level in the 90th minute, fortunately for Wealdstone the shot blazes over the crossbar.
Their next fixture on Tuesday, September 3, sees The Stones travel to struggling side St Albans who have only managed one win so far this season.
