HELPING HAND: Amersham mayor selects foodbank to support for the year

Published on: 13th August 2022   |   By: Darius Morgan   |   Category: Uncategorized

The Mayor of Amersham, Councillor Mark Roberts, has announced his chosen charity for 2022-23.

Each year the Mayor of Amersham selects a local charity that they would like to support to help make a difference to the local community. Funds raised at local events that year are then donated to the Mayor’s chosen charity. Most recently, the Mayor supported Restore Hope Latimer over the past year.

On Wednesday, July 7, cllr Roberts dropped into the Chiltern Foodbank in Chesham, and announced that he had chosen them to support for the forthcoming year.

The foodbank is linked to the Trussell Trust and supports families in crisis across the whole of the Chiltern District.

The Mayor was able to see their operation close up. He spoke with Diane Rutter, Foodbank Coordinator and Kizzy Ross, Warehouse Manager, who showed him around and discussed the noble work they do.

Cllr Roberts said: “The food bank’s aim is to ensure that nobody should face the anxiety of going hungry and that’s exactly what they do, by providing emergency food supplies to local people referred by partners and agencies. It is astonishing that this kind of support is needed in our area but when people in a community are in need then I am glad that our community helps out.”
