A 17-year-old boy from St Albans has been arrested on suspicion of malicious communications, after online threats were made to Premier League footballer Kai Havertz’s wife.
The teenager has been bailed while enquiries continue, Hertfordshire Police say.
Screenshots of the abuse were shared on social media by Havertz’s wife soon after Arsenal were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United on Sunday, January 12. The game finished 1-1 at full-time, sending the nail-biting fixture to penalties. Havertz missed his spot kick and Manchester United went onto win 3-5 in the shootout.
The couple married in 2018 and are now expecting their first child. Havertz’s wife shared social media messages she had received which came from several accounts and involved hateful remarks, some even threatening her unborn child.
