A woman from Rickmansworth organised a successful event to encourage sustainable fashion on Rickmansworth High Street earlier this month.
Shelley Trigg along with friend Nikki Flifel marked Sustainable Fashion Week which took place nationally September 11-19, by organising a ‘Stitch It Don’t Ditch It’ event outside The Sinclair Art Gallery on the High Street.
Despite poor weather, there was a good turnout from the community, who sat and stitched clothes and talked to passers-by about making sustainable choices.
Shelley told RickyNews: “It was a fantastic day, we took to the street and did some stitching. It wasn’t a protest but more of a movement against fast fashion, encouraging people to shop more consciously and mend things rather than buy something new.”
“It was good fun, people stopped and asked what we were doing, we really connected with the right people which is what we set out to do.”
Shelley and Nikki also visited The Aquadrome on Saturday, September 18 as part of Big Green Week, providing leaflets and information about Sustainable Fashion Week.
