HANG UP: Kings Langley Parish Council offers advice to residents after increase in scam phone calls

Published on: 15th December 2020   |   By: Holly Bullen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Kings Langley Parish Council are urging residents to be aware and remain vigilant after witnessing an increase in scam phone calls in the area.

Councillor Andrew Hubberstey said that he has heard stories surrounding scam calls in the area recently and wants the community to be aware and know how to deal with them.

He said: “It’s just awful these telephone scams going on. I think a lot of people are embarrassed about it.

“Don’t be afraid to ask others if they are getting the same phone calls.”

Andrew said his top tips are to never give them your card details, never share your name and address and if they are insistent on payment refuse and say you will wait for the bill to come through.

Andrew added that he is worried as many village residents are not online to see the advice surrounding scam phone calls.

He said: “People aren’t necessarily online and therefore they don’t actually know about this because they are offline.

“Fourteen per cent of our residents will not be online and we have to make sure we don’t miss people.”
