GET INVOLVED: Hemel Hempstead residents encouraged to comment on Local Plan

Published on: 15th December 2020   |   By: Amneet Kaur   |   Category: Uncategorized

The consultation for the Dacorum Borough Council’s (DBC) draft Local Plan has been launched and has been extended to run until February 7, 2021 giving Hemel Hempstead residents time to share their views.

This is an opportunity for residents to consider proposed developments across the borough which span up until 2038.

The Local Plan also sets out developments that promote the vibrancy of the town as it looks to develop it by 20 per cent.

Boxmoor Cllr Liz Uttley said although she did not want the consultation to happen, she is encouraging everyone to have their say.

She said: “There’s a number in housing handed out by the government, the number at the moment is 922 dwellings per year in Dacorum.

“The Office for National Statistics made a projection of how much they think Dacorum is going to grow, their most recent estimate has put the numbers of dwellings down at 355 per year.

“The government has a new algorithm that increases it to 922 per year, because they say houses in Dacorum are not affordable.

“We asked national government to have another look, although we think there should be some uplift from the 355 cause it’s not affordable, multiplying it for almost three seemed unreasonable and unrealistic.

“They said they will have a look. We want them to delay it for at least a couple of months.

“We should take full advantage of the consultation and get involved and try to respond. Even if it’s a few words. We want people to give their views.”

The consultation can be found here.
