GREEN TRANSPORT: Former garage site in Garston turned into ‘modern charging hub’

Published on: 1st October 2025   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

A new ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging station has opened in Garston on the site of a former council garage.

Watford Borough Council approved Leap24’s plan for the new six-bay facility on St Albans Road last year, despite residents’ concerns that the site would bring heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) onto an already congested road.

The facility is open 24/7 and its proximity to the M1 and M25 is likely to attract HGVs travelling long distances.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “We are delighted to work with Leap24 UK to bring a state-of-the-art electric vehicle charging station to Watford. This initiative aligns with our commitment to sustainability and green transport. It’s important that we have the infrastructure necessary so that people can choose electric vehicles, resulting in cleaner air for all of us.”

Pelle Schlichting, founder and CEO of Leap24 UK, added “We’re thrilled to launch our Watford location, transforming a neglected garage site into a modern charging hub for the community. This site will serve city logistics, private hire operators, local residents, and local businesses who need fast and reliable charging.”
