For its annual Christmas concert, St Albans Choral Society under conductor George Vass, presents a fabulous programme of carols, seasonal music and readings on Sunday, December 11 at 7pm in Marlborough Road Methodist Church.
St Albans Choral Society has a growing reputation for presenting new choral music. This Christmas is no exception when it gives the premiere of Sarah Frances Jenkins’ beautiful new carol ‘A Babe is Born’.
Sarah graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with the Principal’s Award in July 2020, and recently completed her postgraduate degree at the Royal College of Music, London. She was winner of BBC Young Composer in 2017 and is the Presteigne Festival’s current ‘Emerge’ composer. Her music has been commissioned and performed by, among others, the BBC Proms, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Concert Orchestra and the Cerne Abbas, Cheltenham, Corbridge, Presteigne and Vale of Glamorgan festivals.
The centrepiece of the 2022 Celebration of Christmas is ‘Ave Rex’, the superbly written carol suite by Welsh composer William Mathias (1934-1992) – other seasonal favourites by John Rutter, Bob Chilcott and Will Todd are included alongside traditional carols for choir, organ and audience.
