Vibrant colours, ripe vegetables, and homemade treats transformed Bovingdon Memorial Hall for the Autumn Show on Saturday, September 13.

After last year’s dreary summer, this year’s scorching heat brought its own challenges, with flowers and vegetables ripening ahead of time.

Yet the area’s green-fingered heroes rose to the occasion for the Bovingdon Gardeners’ annual show, delivering displays full of individuality, creativity, and community spirit.

Jackie Willott made a winning debut, claiming the Horticultural Society Bowl. Mike Leon retained the Ernest Wright Cup and added the Victory Hall Cup to his collection. Albert Braithwaite triumphed in the dahlia section, while Dave Billington impressed with both fuchsias and homemade drinks.

His daughter Megan impressed with preserves and cookery, and Gillian Johansson delighted with her celebrated ginger cake.

Young winners Rose, Leyla, and Charlotte shone brightly, while The Villager was crowned victorious in the Bovingdon hanging basket competition. All contestant contributed to 263 exhibitions.
