A Berkhamsted group is calling for residents to take part in a new community garden initiative.
St Mary’s Garden Group is a group of Northchurch residents who, over the past year, have been discussing the idea of creating a community garden.
The members say that after regularly walking past the old St Mary’s Primary School playground on the corner of New Road and the High Street, they felt something had to change.
Group member Lizzy Balman said: “Our vision is to create a community garden, turning what is an eyesore into a focal point our community can enjoy and be proud of. The site is ideally placed to support local wildlife while also improving air quality.”
They have already secured the support of key stakeholders such as Northchurch Parish Council, St Mary’s Primary School and the Diocese of St Albans, who own the land. They are also working in partnership with Hertfordshire & Middlesex Wildlife Trust on the project.
