The best thing to do when you are given bad news, is to find a way to make life more positive.
Radlett resident Sue Rolfe (pictured right) has now achieved exactly that.
Following her husband Stuart’s (pictured left) diagnosis of cancer, Sue launched the Radlett Nature group to bring local people together.
Sue, a keen runner, is now encouraging other people to join the group and enjoy the nature on their doorstep, as well as share photos of the local countryside.
Thankfully, Stuart has now been given the all-clear, having been critically ill at one stage, and has been cancer-free ever since.
Sue told RADLETTnews: “Stuart was seriously ill for a year with many failed chemotherapies. I thought how lucky I was to be able to run; I really like it and enjoy it.
“After running and walking locally most days, I began to really see wildlife with new eyes.
“I wanted to share the beauty of nature with others. I wanted to show others the benefits of being in nature, and how it can help you overcome adversities and life’s lows.
“I was in nature and wanted to share it with other people. At first it was just friends, but now a few others send things in as well.”
Sue and other members in the group head out as far as St Albans, Tring and Berkhamsted and share snaps of the local scenery. Sue also takes photos for the group on dog walks and runs.
Currently, the group has 37 members, and Sue is hoping to encourage more residents to enjoy nature and contribute to the collection of photos shared amongst members.
Sue said: “I think it would be nice to have gratitude and appreciation for what we have, and the mental health benefits of nature.”
