Ricky the dog is a chocolate greyhound with a white bib and doe brown eyes.
He lives happily with his owner Edwina Blake-Will, living a life of luxury, however he comes from much humbler beginnings.
Around six months ago, Rickmansworth resident Claire Mayo saw an appeal on the RCCG Facebook group that asked if anyone was missing their greyhound.
Claire sent the post to her mum, Edwina, to ask if she could help.
Edwina, who lives in Hayes, has rescued a total of seven greyhounds after falling in love with the breed in 2000. Using her expertise, she knew that all racing greyhounds have tattooed ears – Ricky turned out to indeed be a race dog upon inspection.
The couple who found the dog were not able to take him home and, as it was the weekend, the dog warden could not be contacted. Edwina stepped in and offered to look after the dog over the weekend.
But her fate was sealed, as she fell in love with him and there was no going back. She had even given him a name, Ricky, as an ode to where he was found.
Speaking to RICKYnews, Edwina said: “I took him home and got in touch with the dog warden the next day.
“I took him in on the Tuesday and there was a lot of tears, and the trouble was that I had already fallen in love with him.
“When nobody came forward to claim him, I said can I have him back?”
Claire said: “He stole my mum’s heart and the rest of our family too. He’s such a lovely dog.”
