A Rickmansworth man has completed his first full marathon of 26 miles in memory of his late father after years of taking part in half marathons.
Philip Hay has been taking part in the Cancer Research Shine Night Walk half marathons since 2015 and on September 21, 2019, he completed his first full marathon.
Philip said: “My dad passed away of liver cancer in 2016 andI wanted to do something to help him and those that have or have had cancer.
“So, I decided to get out there and help by doing sponsored walks. I’ve had lots of sponsors and made a lot of money for charity and that means so much to me.
“Knowing that I’m helping someone who needs that treatment, it makes me feel very happy and emotional.
“Also, in the past I’ve done a few assault courses for the peace hospice who looked after and cared for my Nan, who sadly passed away in April 2008.
“My grandad passed away in June 2010 from dementia and I was thinking of eventually doing an event for this cause in the near future.”
