The Batchworth Sea Scouts (BSS), which has members from across Chorleywood, are celebrating three of their young Scouts securing a place in the final of a prestigious competition.
Imperial College London established the Science and Innovation Competition in 2018 to encourage students to design solutions for specific sustainable development goals (SDG).
This year, four teams from BSS submitted a film depicting their ideas. As Sea Scouts, they picked the SDG 14 – life below water and designed machines to clean both sea and shore. The Sharks Lodge Beavers from BSS have now been selected as finalists.
The Beavers, aged seven and eight, will travel to Imperial College London later this month to present their invention.
Richard Patterson, chairman of BSS, said: “Scouting develops life skills through adventure and learning outside the classroom. The Imperial competition is an ideal opportunity for young people to explore science, innovation and sustainability. We wish the Sharks the best of luck in the final.”
