A Hemel Hempstead footballer has been called up to represent England after excelling at his local club.
James Taylor, a 17-year-old goalkeeper, has been with Hemel Hempstead Town FC (HHTFC) for three years and has played a key role in a successful team as they progressed through the age groups. He was a member of the team that won the Eastern Junior Alliance Challenge Cup as well as the Aces Nationals in July 2023.
He has now been selected for the England Under 18 Schoolboys Squad after succeeding at three stages of trials with other gifted players from across the country. Following his success at the initial trials, he represented the South squad against the North at the final trial at Castle Vale on December 10 and James came through with flying colours.
Speaking to Hemel News, a spokesperson from HHTFC said: “James has been coached under legendary goalkeeper Dmitry Kharin whilst at Hemel Hempstead Town, and has worked extremely hard to improve in the manner that he has.
“This development has made him a valued member of the 1st Team squad making 4 starts with 9 other times named on the bench. In September James played for the 1st Team in the Emirates FA Cup, away at Gorleston in the 3rd Qualifying Round, keeping a clean sheet in the 0-2 win.”
James will now represent England internationally, with the preparatory training camp taking place in February 2024. The boys’ competitive fixtures will come in the form of the SAFIB Centenary Shield, which is played from February until April 2024.
