An inspirational Croxley resident is set to begin an epic 1,300km walk around Ireland to raise awareness and money for Prostate Cancer UK.
John Crehan, who has lived in the village for more than a decade, will walk from Mayo to Galway the long way round by covering all 32 counties of Ireland.
He will start his mammoth challenge on Friday, September 12, with the walk expected to finish on Sunday, October 26.
John, who is also known as JC, has long been a supporter of Prostate Cancer UK, including in 2022 when he walked from London to Tipperary.
Speaking to Croxleynews, JC’s daughter-in-law Katie Crehan said: “I think the challenge is fantastic and his continued support of the charity is amazing.
“It’s a huge challenge but I’ve always known JC to go off on his marches – usually ending with a cold one – so this challenge is perfect for him.
“Everyone is so proud of him, and he has so much support from his family and friends.
“This incredible challenge aims not only to raise vital awareness about prostate cancer but also to encourage men to get regular health checks.”
While JC’s main goal is to raise awareness, he has also set up a JustGiving page to raise money for the charity. Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/page/john-crehan-1753812774092
