BRITINDIA: Stanmore artist’s work inspired by Indian diaspora on display at museum

Published on: 18th December 2023   |   By: Dean Shaw   |   Category: Uncategorized

An artist from Stanmore is displaying her work at an exhibition which will run into the new year.

Ketna Patel is a British Indian pop artist who recently returned to the Stanmore house she grew up in after spending almost 30 years in Asia.

She is currently exhibiting a collection called Britindia at Headstone Manor Museum in Pinner, which runs until January 28, 2024.

Ketna, who is often referred to as Asia’s answer to Andy Warhol, was based in Singapore and India for the last 25 years.

In that time, she has built a compelling visual vocabulary, reflecting a confident, new Asian identity.

As the Indian community is famous for food, she has also launched a range of arty dinner plates and cake stands which can be seen at the exhibition.

Ketna said: “The exhibition is inspired by the Indian diaspora, and how somebody or the other in most Indian family lineages probably hailed from East Africa or India; how we immigrated to this country with nothing, and how we all consciously or subconsciously express our cultural identity through the objects we accumulate.”

For more information on Ketna, visit her website at ketnapatel.com where her inspiration and artwork is displayed, as well an online shop where gifts can be bought.
