Planning meetings aren’t usually known for their intensity, but a recent Harrow Council licencing meeting had all the flair of a courtroom drama.
At a meeting on Thursday, October 16, local government barrister Leo Charalambides was representing client SS Party Ventures Ltd, who have applied for a new premises licence to open a Mexican-Italian fusion restaurant in Hatch End.
So far, the proposal has stirred controversy and received over 50 objections.
When parking pressures and traffic control were raised in the meeting, Mr Charalambides informed the council “it is not relevant or indeed lawful” for them to consider such matters.
Concerns over delivery drivers and late closing times were also brushed aside as outside the scope of the meeting, leaving some residents frustrated.
However, the barrister accepted the suggested amendments to install a noise limiter at the premises, to only serve alcohol to seated customers having a meal, and reducing the closing hours to midnight from Sunday to Thursday and 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
