The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire Annie Brewster said she was “amazed” by an inspiring women-only gym in St Albans.

The High Sheriff visited the gym at Beaumont School on Tuesday, August 27.

The gym is part of Hertfordshire Asian Women’s Association (HAWA) Multicultural Services and offers a culturally sensitive environment where Asian women can comfortably exercise.

The gym was founded and co-directed by Rushna Miah and funded by Sport England with support by Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership.

Activities include badminton, basketball and fitness sessions, and there is also a full gym suite.

The High Sheriff said: “Amazed by my visit to HAWA women-only gym and fitness sessions, uniquely tailored to meet the needs of ethnically diverse women aged 16 to 75.

“It was wonderful to hear the stories that have brought women to this gym.”

Following the visit, HAWA posted on social media: “The High Sheriff’s visit provided an opportunity to witness the impact this space has on women and girls from ethnically diverse communities.”
