With the London Marathon taking place next month, RickmansworthNews is taking a look at some of the town’s finest who will be tackling the big race.
Louise Rayner will be in the thick of the action on April 23. She is racing in aid of Paul Strickland Scanner Centre (PSSC), a cancer imaging facility at Mount Vernon Hospital.
Louise is supporting her friend Julia, who is a patient at the centre.
She said: “Julia told me that without PSSC, she wouldn’t be alive today.”
Meanwhile, nurse Lucy Michaels will be running with her partner Tommy for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
Lucy said: “Six months ago, I started as a junior staff nurse on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. I see most families and children at the hardest points of their journeys with GOSH. Getting to see the difference the GOSH charity makes for them such as providing accommodation, funding lifesaving research and more – it only seemed right to help them achieve these goals by raising money.
“I’m nervous about the race, but I am telling myself just to take it slow and as long as I finish, that is all that matters!”
