A shop in Sarratt pledged to support the local community has now opened up its garden to serve as a café for the village.
The Sarratt Green Café provides tea, coffee, cake and much more to residents and visitors to the local area. It’s being run by the Sarratt Post Office Stores and is open from 10am to 3pm from Thursday to Saturday every week, with an appeal for more volunteers so the project can become a daily fixture.
The decision was made to open the space when the shop’s operators realised, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the people of the village needed an area to meet up and chat over some food or drink, something that was much missed by many during the various lockdowns.
The Post Office Stores have been a part of Sarratt for 70 years but became a community concern in 2010 when 85 families from the area pledged funds to buy the shop and run it as a local venture, with the local community at the heart of its interests, with the café an extension of that philosophy.
The shop and café works with many local suppliers for its produce as well, with flowers, fruit and vegetables taken from the Croxley Community Garden.
