A chalkboard that draws by itself, a bric-a-brac steam-powered locomotive, and a musical machine that’s part piano and part sewing machine are all part of a new museum exhibition in Pinner.
William Heath Robinson’s humorous illustrations of absurdly complex machines built from string, spoons, kettles and corkscrews are known and loved around the world.
His drawings, first published before the First World War, have since inspired generations of inventors, artists and engineers.
The Contraptions and Connections exhibition at the Heath Robinson Museum celebrates the beautiful and profound world where imagination meets engineering.
From the beloved drawings of the original ‘Gadget King’, to contemporary kinetic artists, the exhibition turns the everyday into the extraordinary.
The exhibition will be open until Sunday, October 26, and is included with a museum entry ticket.
