FROZEN STREETS: Residents slip into concern as ice hits roads in Northwood

Published on: 22nd January 2026   |   By: Naomi Greenaway   |   Category: Uncategorized

Icy weather has turned Northwood’s roads into “ice rinks,” according to residents. Concerns have been raised regarding gritter vehicles in the area.

On Wednesday, January 7, one resident expressed frustrations on Facebook, stating: “Some roads are like ice rinks even though the sun is out…and the pavements are worse.”

Ducks Hill Road was highlighted after an anonymous resident told NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews that gritters previously started work at 7.45am during rush hour, causing traffic.

Social media opinions were divided. One post on Facebook read: “The council is scrimping these days; my neighbour nearly fell on the pavements.”

Another post commented: “Can’t fault the gritters at all. They are out at 6am every day around Northwood Hills.”

With more cold weather expected, residents are reminded to take care on icy roads and pavements to avoid accidents.

Hillingdon Council responded, saying: “These periods are optimised to be the most effective in preventing ice from forming.”
