1st Radlett Scout Troop reopens

Published on: 7th February 2019   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

1st Radlett Scout Troop, which had been closed since July last year, has finally managed to reopen – almost exactly a century after it was first founded.

The popular Scout group closed after its previous leaders left in July, but has now found new leaders to run it once more.

Alex, James, Maddie, Gemma, Jasmine and James W have come to lead the group every Tuesday from 7:45pm in Scout Headquarters in Scrubbits Park Road.

The Scout’s greatest thanks go to these new leaders, especially since a number of them already help with Scouting in other parts of the district.

This all comes in the year of 1st Radlett Scouts centenary, as the group was officially registered on May 16, 1919.

They have had a centenary woggle designed by one of their members and as well as having some joint events with the Guides, who also celebrate their centenary, they will be having a centenary celebration, inviting past members and leaders on Saturday, June 29.

The Scouts said: “If anyone also has historic documents or photographs of the group, please do contact us on centenary.1stradlettscouts@gmail.com

“1st Radlett Scouts has also obtained a grant to improve the windows, doors and fire escape of our headquarters.

“As a result of the short time without the Scout section, we have lost some children in our Scouts, so we have spaces for 10½ – 14 year olds. There are also some spaces in our Cub Pack for any children aged 8-10½ years old. If you would like to join contact … for details.”

The group could still do with some help, particularly in the Cub section, to provide Scouting for all in Radlett.
