Gino from Gino’s Ice Cream has hung up his cone after four years of serving ice cream to residents across Radlett and Shenley.
His van will be run instead by protégé Filipe, who has been learning the ropes over the last few years and is “incredibly excited” to take over the business.
Gino, a pilot by trade, took to running his ice cream van during the COVID-19 lockdown when aviation came to a standstill. Now that overseas travel is back, he has found himself too busy to keep the van running.
He said: “It’s quite funny because I’m a pilot and Filipe is a member of the cabin crew. This is maybe the first time an ice cream van has been run entirely by aviation staff.
“When I started Gino’s Ice Cream, I just had no idea how much I’d love it. Everyone’s happy when they see you and suddenly I have friends all over Radlett.”
Residents flocked to social media to share their praise for Gino’s Ice Cream, dubbed by one user as a “big player in our community”. One resident posted a photo of NHS staff enjoying an ice cream during the pandemic, whilst another recalled Gino driving all the way to her house just so her two boys could enjoy an ice cream.
