ARRIVA DERCI: Company says bus route is “no longer financially sustainable”

A bus route in Abbots Langley has been axed just months after its launch.

The 328 bus, which shuttles residents from Abbots Langley through Watford before arriving at Mount Vernon Hospital, will be withdrawn on June 2, with no replacement service currently planned.

A spokesperson for Arriva said: “We recognise this is disappointing news for our valued customers and we are working hard with the council to try and find an alternative option.

“We are having to make this change because sadly, passenger numbers have failed to recover post-pandemic and the route is no longer financially sustainable. This is exacerbated by a shortage of drivers in the area, which further adds to the costs.”

The spokesperson apologised to customers, adding that Arriva “shares their hope that an alternative option can be found”.

Councillor Asif Khan, Labour spokesperson for Highways Transport, said: “Losing the 328 hits hard. It’s not just a bus route; it’s a lifeline for many residents.”

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire County Council said: “We’re aware that Arriva are planning to withdraw the commercially run 328 bus service, and we are working bus operators to see if there are viable options to keep the 328 running.”
