FOR HOLLY: Ukulele groups hold fundraiser in memory of ‘sweet’ St Albans girl

Published on: 22nd April 2024   |   By: Panayiota Demosthenous   |   Category: Uncategorized

The death of a “sweet” St Albans girl has inspired two ukulele groups to take part in a fundraiser.

Holly Atkins Fooks was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2014. Despite undergoing two surgeries, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Holly passed away in September 2017, aged just 11.

Her grandmother Jacky Atkins has supported Brain Tumour Research’s Wear A Hat Day ever since.

On this year’s Wear A Hat Day on Thursday, March 28, Jacky and her two ukulele groups, UkeRythmics and Last of the Summer Ukuleles, donned their hats during their performances and collected donations for the charity.

Jacky explained: “Research is the only way they’re going to find a cure. I hope our support helps prevent other families from having to go through what we did.”
