OVERFLOWING: Burst pipes and water leaks cause havoc on Chorleywood roads

Published on: 22nd April 2024   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

Residents have shared their frustration with a spate of water leaks in Chorleywood over recent weeks.

Amidst the recent wet weather, there have been several incidents of burst pipes and overflows in the village.

On Friday, March 29, a burst water main caused flooding on Burtons Lane, while another leak caused problems on Old Shire Lane. Cars and cyclists were prevented from going down both of these roads.

The day before, another leak occurred on Blacketts Wood Drive and caused flooding on North Hill.

With all of these incidents being reported by residents on social media, others were quick to discuss the possible reasons for the sudden increase in leaks.

One stated: “I hope it’s just water, as I know there is a major problem with sewers in Rickmansworth at the moment. The sewer system from Park Road down to the High Street has been blocked since March 2.”

Affinity Water has been contacted for comment.

The leak in Old Shire Lane was clean water, but it came at a time when there was already a huge puddle across the track leading to Philipshill Woods. I heard one explanation that Affinity Water had recently increased the pressure in the water system, which had exposed the weak points in the pipework.
