FOOTIE FUN: New Chorleywood ladies’ football sessions prove a success

Published on: 26th May 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

On Sunday, May 8, 34 excited, but slightly, nervous women arrived at the new pitch at St Clement Danes’ School for a football kickabout, in what hopes to be the first in a series of sessions of relaxed ladies football.

Organised by Chorleywood Common Youth Football Club (CCYFC), the get-togethers are part of the Football Association (FA)’s new ‘Just Play’ initiative for women, encourage ladies of all ages and skills to get involved in the game, targeted at those who don’t want to commit to an eight-month football season.

The first session, led by club chairman Guy Allen and fellow trainers Jake, Tommy and Sam, was a great success, with many of the women enjoying an easy-going introduction to the sport on a lovely sunny day.

Mr Allen said: “We asked them what they wanted to get out of the sessions, and we had a full range of responses, from “do something for myself away from kids!” through to “just want to give it a go. My husband coaches, my daughter and son both play so I thought I should see what it’s all about!””

The meetups will be taking place every Sunday from 6-7pm until August 21. Participation is free, but you will need to sign up before you join. To do so, you can follow this link and submit the form: forms.gle/9YzALF4KN7mgVp6E6
