ACTIVE KIDS: Rickmansworth Year 6 girls give back to school with £1k raised through triathlon

A group of Year 6 schoolchildren took part in a unique triathlon to raise money for the beloved school they’re set to leave behind this year.

Poppy, Summer, Olga, Mahi, Eadie and Dora have made many great memories at Rickmansworth Park School, so before they headed off to secondary school, they decided to do something to give back to the people who helped make those memories.

The triathlon took place on Sunday, May 8, and consisted of a 3km swim, a 100km cycle and one hour of non-stop rollerskating, all between the six of them.

Together, the girls have managed to raise more than double their intended amount, getting more than £1,100 so far, way beyond their initial target of £500.

Speaking about their incredible effort, they said: “We decided to do the triathlon as a thank you for all the effort the school staff have put in while we have been at the school.”

“Rollerskating was the hardest part because it was on a slope which made it ten times harder! We were falling over a lot!”.

“We did not think we would raise as much as we have because we were told not to get our hopes up and we may not reach our target.”

“The school said that we should make a list of all the things we would like to get for the school. Some of our ideas are funding a vegetable patch, art supplies and books.”

“We would like to thank all of our parents, all the people who kindly donated and Poppy’s cousin Martha for giving us the idea. Thank you also to William Penn Leisure Centre who accommodated us for the swimming part.”
