A month into the launch of the new LoveYourHighStreet market on Rickmansworth high street, it’s organisers have spoken to RICKYnews about the initiative.

Shelly Trigg and Nikki Flifel first came up with the idea last year. Speaking to RICKYnews, Shelly said: “We put out a post [on Facebook] seven months ago about how they’d feel about a market in Ricky. We got over 400 comments.

“Batchworth Community Council (BCC) and Rickmansworth Town Team (RTT) had the same vision, and it went from there. Everyone’s been amazing.”

Lisa Hudson of BCC concurred, stating: “We all had the same idea, they came to us with a group of stallholders.

“Funding has been spent on this project for the high street, as well as a lot of time and a lot of manpower.”

Shelly also revealed her surprise at the success of the first event. “We really couldn’t believe how big it was. All the food stalls sold out by two o’clock.”

The event, which takes place on the last Sunday of every month, features a variety of stalls selling clothes, food, beauty products and other items, but they all have one thing in common, which is sustainability.

Shelly is optimistic that this modern market will continue to flourish as it goes on. “I think it will grow organically. I feel like the high street is reinventing itself.

“We do want to keep it as sustainable as possible.”

The next LoveYourHighStreet market will taken place on Sunday, May 29 from 11am to 3pm. To find out more, visit their website.
