A St Albans resident and the winner of a popular TV show has launched an initiative to deliver football to underprivileged areas of the world.
Best friends Alfie Watts and Owen Wood raced from Japan to Indonesia with just the value of a plane ticket in their pocket for the BBC show, Race Across the World.
Without access to their phones or bank accounts and forbidden from using air travel, the boys had to travel 9,300 miles and be the first to reach the final checkpoint to claim the prize.
Following his TV show success, Alfie has worked with UK charities Kit Aid and Charity Boots, alongside Malaysia-based charity The Last Food Project, to begin Football Starts With Hope. This new initiative aims to deliver football to underprivileged areas of the world.
Kit Aid provides old kits from clubs across the leagues, including Liverpool, Watford, and England national kits.
This August, Alfie kickstarted the project by travelling to Kuala Lumpur to deliver 250kg of football kits and boots directly to children.
Alfie has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to support the three charities. You can donate at www.gofundme.com/f/donate-to-football-starts-with-hope
