The third and final bike ride in memory of a Radlett local, Elias Taylor, will take place this July.
Known as the Vegas After Party Trilogy Ride, a team of 30 cyclists will travel over 320km between Lyon and Aigues-Mortes in France. The two previous rides – from Paris to London and Paris to Beziers – took place in 2019 and 2022. As Radlett News goes to print, the events have raised over £340,000 for Haematology Cancer Care at University College Hospital.
Elias, who sadly passed away from leukaemia in 2018 at age 22, lived in Radlett his entire life. Attending Newberries School and Watford Grammar School for Boys, he was sports mad and played football, tennis, cricket and rugby for local clubs.
His parents Jon and Giselle, alongside friends and family, will take part in the bike ride.
Speaking to Radlett News, Jon and Giselle shared: “It’s a fitting tribute to Elias’ all too short life, that his legacy is now helping so many young people. This means so much to us, and to his sister Sophie and brother Harry.
“The money raised is ring-fenced towards a research project in Elias’ name and has bought an apheresis machine, used to treat haematology cancers every day. We’re very proud that the clinical trials he participated in are now standard treatment in the NHS and the research is helping to find a cure for this cruel illness. Elias will always remain our superhero.
“Maybe you played sport with Elias or went to Newberries or Watford Grammar – or even if you didn’t – please go to our page and help make dying from leukaemia a thing of the past.”
