FIRST EXHIBITION: Stanmore’s Mosaic community hosts exhibition featuring late artist’s work

The Stanmore-based Mosaic Jewish Community opened their first art exhibition on Thursday, March 2, a retrospective of paintings by the late Tony Abraham.

The event was organised by the synagogue in collaboration with Ruth Abraham, Tony’s widow, and offered the chance for Mosaic to show off their building on Halsbury Close, which opened last year.

The exhibition showcased a wide variety of Tony’s art, ranging from portraits of flag sellers in Turkey, to beautiful desert landscapes, to intricate and complex paintings of lakes and oceans.

Tony was born in the East End in 1939 and studied art and lithography at Willesden and Harrow Arts Schools. After retiring from a career in advertising, he was able to commit his time to painting.

Speaking at the event, Ruth said: “I would like to thank Joan for asking me on behalf of the Mosaic synagogue, to exhibit the paintings of my late husband Tony.”

The exhibition is open until Thursday, March 30, and can be viewed between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Thursday, and 9am to 5pm on Fridays.
