A Radlett-based cancer charity is inviting canine-lovers down to Aldenham Social Club on Sunday, May 18 to take part in ‘Not Just a Walk in the Park’. The Cure for Cancer @ UCL Charity has organised the day in order to raise public awareness and at the same time raise much needed funds for the UCL Cancer Institute to purchase more medical-research equipment. Dima Yeremenko – a specialist dog trainer at the Good Boy Dog School – will join walkers on the day and put on dancing, synchronised obedience and heelwork-to-music demonstrations, with the help of his performing dogs. Dima has been featured on many TV programs, including The Underdog Show and Leader of the Pack. Following Dima’s demonstrations, visitors can expect to play games designed for owners and their dogs, with winners receiving prizes kindly donated by Pets at Home in Elstree. Radlett resident, Sandra Hamilton, founded the charity back in 2011 and suffers herself with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a form of terminal cancer. She spoke to My Radlett & Shenley News about how important events are, such as the charity dog walk, in spreading the charity’s message. “If 15,000 people a year in the UK are diagnosed non-Hodgkins lymphoma, six thousand will be dead within 12-months,” she said. “If this is children we’re talking about, it’s frightening. We need to find a cure.” Tickets can be purchased at www.curecancer-ucl.org/events.htm and are priced at £15 per person – children go FREE. Sandra is urging those taking part to also consider asking friends and family for sponsorship so more money can be raised for charity. Registration will get underway from 10.15am, followed by the demonstrations and walk from 10.45am. The day will conclude, following refreshments at Aldenham Social Club, at 1pm.
