The St Albans Striders reclaimed the title of overall winners of the Division 1 of the 2022 Mid-Week Road Race League.
The league comprises of over 20 Hertfordshire running clubs, and the title is determined by accumulating both male and female results over four 10k races. After the final event took place on June 30 at Trent Park, the Striders victory was secured.
A spokesperson for the Striders said: “The victory was a fitting testament to the commitment of athletes in representing their club, as demonstrated by the huge turn-out at each event, improvements in fitness levels resulting from the targeted training co-ordinated by Caroline Bailes and delivered by coaches in the last four months and the encouragement, support and leadership of Road Captains Errol and Jenny Maginley.”
After dominating the four rounds of the regular season, the Striders went into the “mob match” in exceptional form. The match on July 6 brought clubs from all three divisions together for one final race held in Welwyn Garden City. Striders stormed to victory, claiming team prizes in the men’s, women’s, and veteran categories.
