Student through to final of cooking competition

A student from Park High School in Stanmore came runner-up in a Young Chefs Competition. 

Waseem Taman was tasked to cook to a criterion of two dishes within a budget of £10. 

The competition was hosted by The Rotary North West London Area at Park High School on Wednesday, February 6.   

Grace Ojumu of Kingsbury High School, won the event who will through to the district final of the Rotary Youth Speaks along with Waseem.

The district final will take place at Redbridge College on Saturday, February 23.   

Other contestants included Salma Afghanyar and Lubna Abdulrahman from Bentley Wood High School for Girls, Bethany Mocan from Park High School, Ibrahim Naima from Kingsbury High School and Franklin Borges from Christ’s College Finchley. 

Judges were Rotarians Helen Antoniou and Peter Bradley, Rotarian and FoodCycle hub leader David Perron and chef and Rotarian Sasha Capocci.  

Local Mayors Kareema Marikar of Harrow, Arshad Mahmood of Brent, and Deputy Mayor Caroline Stock of Barnet chatted to the contestants whilst walking around sampling the various dishes.
