The final ward at the £42 million world class inpatient mental health unit in Radlett is due to open today (November 13). Kingfisher Court, at the Kingsley Green Hospital site, opened its final ward after four years of planning and investment by Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT). Tom Cahill, HPFT’s Chief Executive, said: “I am very proud that this week will see our service users moving into these world class facilities. Kingfisher Court represents our commitment to supporting some of the most vulnerable people in Hertfordshire at their time of need.” The first two wards opened in June this year and is the Trust’s flagship inpatient unit for the assessment and treatment of people with mental health illness and learning disabilities. Kingfisher Court will provide 86 beds in a therapeutic environment with wards that specialise in: acute adult mental health care, mental health care for adults who may be frail or vulnerable, and assessment and treatment for people with a learning disability. People who use the Trust’s services and their carer’s were involved with the design and build and the Bird names of the wards were chosen by more than 100 clinical champions, service users, carers and staff.
