A Croxley Green couple has set themselves a huge fundraising challenge to mark their 50th birthdays.
Sarah and Ben wanted to find a way of celebrating their birthdays whilst giving back to the community. They came up with the idea of running a series of charity events to raise £50,000 for five charities.
The five chosen charities are: West Herts Hospital Charity, DENS, Herts Inclusive Theatre, EDS Support UK and Fowlers Syndrome UK.
The local community has got fully behind the couple, already donating to their JustGiving page.
Speaking to CroxleyNews, Ben said:
“This is no longer the two of us trying to raise this money; it is now a community challenge with many friends and acquaintances stepping in to help us achieve our goal.”
Ben has already got stuck in with challenges towards their goal. On Saturday, September 19, Ben and friend Kevin participated in the Serpentine two-mile open water swim. They trained for the swim for four months, spending many evenings in a lake no matter the weather.
The next event in the 50@50 calendar is a 12-hour dance-a-thon. Due to be held on Saturday, November 7 from 8am–8pm in Rickmansworth, Ben and Sarah are hoping to get as many people from the local community involved as possible.
