SERIOUS COLLISION: One person seriously injured following Hemel Hempstead incident

A person was taken to hospital and roads leading toward the M1 from Hemel Hempstead were closed for several hours following a serious road traffic collision.

Two vehicles – a white BMW X1 and a black BMW 1 Series were involved in the collision shortly before 8pm on Thursday, March 16. A man, who was the passenger in the black BMW, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Witnesses reported seeing parts of the eastbound section of St Albans Road A414 closed for several hours, with fire and ambulance services in attendance alongside police.

Road closures were not lifted until 12.30am, over four hours later.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Police said: “Police were called at around 7.55pm on Thursday March 16 following a road traffic collision in Longlands, Hemel Hempstead. It was reported that two vehicles were involved.

“Officers attended alongside the fire and ambulance services and road closures were put in place. One person was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“Road closures were lifted at around 12.30am. Enquiries are continuing.”

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “The East of England Ambulance Service was called at 19.56pm on 16 March 2023 to a road traffic accident on A414 in Hemel Hempstead. Four ambulances, an ambulance officer, a rapid response vehicle and an air ambulance were all in attendance.”
