Places are now available to join a tour this summer which will celebrate a famous Abbots Langley explorer.
Captain James Fitzjames was part of the failed British voyage to the Arctic in 1845 which was led by Captain Sir John Franklin.
Tragically, everyone involved in the expedition died after their ships became stuck in pack ice.
Fitzjames, who spent much of his youth in Abbots Langley, was captain of one of those ships, the HMS Erebus.
To celebrate his life, a tour is being led by Dutch historian Fabiënne Tetteroo.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 26, where historical information and some exclusive details from Fabiënne’s research will be shared. The tour starts in Watford and ends with dinner at The Unicorn in Abbots Langley.
Fabiënne told Abbotsnews: “To me, visiting places connected with historical figures always brings them to life a little bit more.
“Last year’s tour was a success; we had a wonderful day with 21 attendees.
“The tour will begin with an introduction talk and afterwards a Q&A where I answer questions people can submit in advance.
“We end the day with dinner at a historical pub in Abbots Langley, which was already there in Fitzjames’ time.”
