A dynamic duo from a local estate agency are preparing to take on challenges to raise money for charity.
Jo Ryan and Tommy Higgins who work for Gibbs Gillespie Estate Agents are taking part in fundraising efforts on behalf of two separate cancer charities.
Jo, who works at the agency’s Pinner Head Office, is walking the Connemara Half -Marathon to raise money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre following a personal battle with cancer.
She said: “I was diagnosed with breast cancer in September last year and, naturally, I was devastated, but with the support of my family and friends, I continued to live my life as normal.
“I underwent treatment which finished in January and all being well, I hope to be discharged on Feb 26. I realise I’m not out of the woods yet, but I’m optimistic I’ll beat it. It’s given me a new outlook on life and I’m grateful for each new day.
“On Sunday, April 19, I’m going to walk the Connemara Half Marathon to raise money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital. They provide psychological, emotional and practical help to those affected by cancer, at any stage of their journey. As a patient, I was overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness and I’m doing this because I’d like to give something back.”
Tommy, who works at the firm’s Uxbridge Sales Office, will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon on March 29 on behalf of Leukaemia UK.
He explained why: “Last year my Aunt was diagnosed with Leukaemia and thanks to the great treatment and support she has received I am delighted to say she is cancer-free!
“After experiencing this as a family, we can relate to so many others that are going through this horrible time. I want to do something to bring awareness and hopefully raise a little money in the process to help prevent other families from having to experience this in the future.”
