GRAND OPENING: First visitors to Amersham’s Chilterns Lifestyle Centre take the plunge

Published on: 5th January 2022   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

The highly anticipated centre in Amersham officially opened last month and welcomed many visitors.

The Chilterns Lifestyle Centre opened its door on December 6 and saw almost 10,000 visitors coming through the doors in the first week.

The centre boasts a fantastic choice of activities for people of all ages.

Key facilities include: an eight lane, 25 metre swimming pool, diving pool, teaching pool alongside a children’s splash pad area, dry diving training facility, 130 station state-of-the-art gym, group cycling studio, group exercise studios, Mind & Body studio, sports hall, squash courts, climbing wall, bouldering facilities, clip ‘n climb, children’s soft play area and luxury spa and treatment facilities. In addition to this there is a library, community centre, café, pre-school nursery and function rooms for hire; all under one roof.

Outside the centre there is a skate park, street snooker, outdoor gym and play equipment to the rear of the centre. Coming next year there will be play equipment to the front of the centre, a multi-use games area (MUGA) and a Petanque area.

Chairman of Buckinghamshire Council, Councillor Zahir Mohammed was at the opening and commented: “I’m delighted to be able to mark the opening of this new facility by cutting a ceremonial ribbon. I would personally like to thank everyone involved in making it happen.

“I’m blown away by the facilities on offer, not only does the centre look fantastic but it will also play a vital role in improving health and wellbeing in the local community and those from further afield.”

Councillor Clive Harriss, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Buckinghamshire Council said: “It’s been great to welcome so many people through the doors of the new centre. Seeing members from Amersham Swimming Club swimming their first length in the pool, and the first timers dipping their toes in the brand new teaching pool really was a wonderful sight.

“We have already had an influx of new members, with over 10,000 visits to the centre in the first week and I can only see it going from strength to strength.

“The library saw just under 2,000 items borrowed in the first week, which is more than the old Amersham library loaned out throughout the entire month of November! Not only are we getting more new visitors to the library, but we are seeing many lapsed borrowers having their membership reactivated which is just wonderful to see.

Everyone Active Contract Manager, Steve Salwa said: “We are delighted to see so many people already enjoying the new Chilterns Lifestyle Centre – it’s fantastic to see it come to life!

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive feedback from customers who have been taking advantage of the wide range of new and improved activities on offer. We believe the new centre will benefit everyone across the community and are feeling positive that the number of people visiting the centre will continue to grow over the coming months.”
